Below are some helpful guidelines/ links in the event of a medical emergency, as well as general health related services.

Private clinics and hospitals provide services in most of the bigger cities in the Algarve and surrounding region. Treatment is available on immediate payment basis, alternatively some of the institutions accept private insurance cards and/or travel insurance.

It would be best to check with your provider which facilities you are eligible to use.

In public hospitals and walk-in-clinics, you will find medical assistance at a reasonable price with the presentation of your EHEC. In any case you should take you EHEC, as you will get a discount on prescriptions medication.

Please note, it’s important that you take your medication list when you visit the doctor so that he can prescribe medications that is suitable given your existing medications.

Also, it would be advisable to carry the name, address and contact details of your home GP in the event that a medical dialogue needs to take place with you regular GP.
